Your own domain
You can show your page on a domain you own, like davidsgames.cz. Your Moymo address keeps working beside it. It is free, and the certificate for it (the padlock) is made and renewed for you.
Before you start
- You need a verified e-mail address (Settings > Account).
- You need a domain you have registered and can edit the DNS records of: at your registrar, or at Cloudflare if your domain's name servers are there.
- You can connect a small number of domains per account; the panel tells you how many, and asks you to disconnect one if you are at the limit.
Connect it
- Open the Page panel and find Your own domain.
- Type the domain. Write it plainly:
davidsgames.cz, with nohttps://and nothing after it. (If you paste a full address Moymo reduces it to the domain.) - Choose how to set it up:
| Set it up with Cloudflare | If your domain's DNS is at Cloudflare. You paste a token, Moymo adds the records. About half a minute. |
| Set up with your provider | Where Moymo can send you straight to your DNS provider and you approve the records there, nothing is pasted. |
| Do it myself | Works at any registrar, Cloudflare included. Two records to copy across, then a wait while DNS spreads. |
The records (the manual way)
Moymo shows what to add to your domain with the exact values. In short, two records:
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| A or CNAME | Points your domain at Moymo. A subdomain, or an apex at a provider that "flattens" a CNAME, uses a CNAME to moymo.net; an apex at any other provider uses an A record to the address shown. |
TXT at _moymo-challenge.<your domain> | Proves the domain is yours: its value is moymo-verify= and a code shown in the panel. |
- Names: the panel writes names the way most DNS panels want them, relative to your domain (
@,www,_moymo-challenge). If yours asks for the whole name, the full form is under each. - Proxy off: if you use Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (a grey cloud), not proxied (orange). Moymo has to see the connection itself to fetch the certificate. The panel can tell when it sees Cloudflare's proxy instead of Moymo and says exactly what to click.
- No AAAA record. Moymo has no IPv6 address, and a browser that finds an AAAA record will not fall back to the A record.
- Leave your MX records alone. Your e-mail has nothing to do with this; deleting them stops it.
www: for an apex domain you can havewww.<your domain>work too (tick Make www work too in the Cloudflare route, or add the CNAME yourself).- The TXT record can be deleted once the domain is live: it is only needed to prove ownership.
Set it up with Cloudflare
- In Cloudflare, open API Tokens, choose Create Token, then Get started next to Custom token.
- Permissions: first line Zone - DNS - Edit (lets Moymo write the records); second line Zone - Zone - Read (lets it find which of your zones the domain belongs to).
- Zone Resources: Include - Specific zone and pick the zone the domain is in. Do not give it all zones.
- If you like, set the token to expire tomorrow. Moymo needs it for a few seconds.
- Continue to summary, create the token and copy it (Cloudflare shows it once).
- Paste it in the panel and choose Add the records.
What happens to the token
It is used once, inside that one request, and then it is gone. Moymo does not store it, does not write it to a log, and never sends it back to your browser.
If a record already sits on your domain, Moymo leaves it where it is and tells you exactly which one; it never overwrites or deletes anything you already have. The result reads like: Done at your-zone: 2 added, 0 already in place.
Checking
Check now looks at your DNS and answers in plain words. Moymo also keeps looking by itself while it waits. The states you will see:
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Waiting / "Nothing answers yet" | Normal: a new record takes a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, to spread. Moymo keeps looking. |
| "We cannot find the TXT record" | The ownership record is not there yet. Check it saved, then look again. |
| "The TXT record does not match" | Copy the value again: it has to match exactly. |
| "It answers with an address, which is not us" | The domain points somewhere else. The panel shows the address it found and the one it should be. |
| "It looks like it is being proxied by Cloudflare" | Click the orange cloud so it turns grey (DNS only), then check again. |
| "We cannot find the domain at all" | Check the spelling, and that the domain is registered and has name servers. |
| Securing | DNS is right; Moymo is fetching the certificate. Usually under a minute. |
| Live | It works. "Live since date. The certificate renews itself." |
| No certificate | A certificate could not be made. Almost always something other than Moymo still answers for the domain. Check the records, or write to us. |
| Not resolving | It stopped pointing here. Visitors get a browser error until it does again. Your Moymo page still works. |
Disconnecting
Disconnect removes the domain from your page. Anyone with the old link gets a browser error until you point the record somewhere else, and your Moymo addresses keep working.
