Who can do what
| To | You need |
|---|---|
| Delete others' messages, pin | Manage messages |
| Put a member in timeout | Moderate members |
| Kick | Kick members |
| Ban | Ban members |
| Mute, move or disconnect from voice | Mute members, Move members |
| Change others' nicknames | Manage nicknames |
| Make roles and give them out | Manage roles |
| Create and edit channels | Manage channels |
| Edit the server (name, picture, perks, notices) | Manage server |
You can only act on members below your own highest role, and never on the owner.
Time-outs
A timeout (1 minute to 28 days) stops a member writing, reacting, mentioning, speaking in voice, inviting and changing their nickname. They can still read. It ends by itself. A member in a voice channel is taken out of it. A clock shows beside them in the member list, and their message box says how long is left.
An owner or administrator cannot be timed out.
Kick and ban
Kick removes a member, who can come back with an invite. Ban removes them and stops them coming back, whatever invite they use; a banned member is not told which servers banned them. Bans are listed in the server's settings, with a reason, and can be lifted.
Invites
Invites are made by people with Create invite: each can have a limit of uses and an end. The server settings list every open invite (up to 100). A custom invite name is a perk.
Server messages
A server can say, in a text channel, that somebody joined, somebody left, and somebody put a spark on it. In Server settings > Server messages (for people who manage the server), choose a channel for each, or Don't say it, which is what a server does until told.
Each is a single line with a small mark in front: a green arrow in, a red arrow out, a twinkling spark. They never make a note (no ping), though the channel can become unread. People who are kicked or banned are not announced, and someone who joins and leaves repeatedly is said once of each per ten minutes, so the arrows cannot become a wall.
When an app's bot is added, the join line says so and by whom: see Bots in your server.
Reports
To report something to Moymo's own moderators (illegal content, abuse), use Report at moymo.net/report. Server moderators handle what happens inside their server; Moymo handles what the law and its terms require across the site.
Good practice
- Give moderators a role with the permissions they need, below yours, rather than Administrator.
- Make the first role a Moderator role, and keep Manage server for very few people.
- Use channel overwrites (see Channels and roles) to make read-only and members-only channels.
